Flood Warning System

Nixle Emergency Notification System

The City of Austell has instituted a rapid emergency notification service called Nixle to improve and access important, valuable community information when you need it, using the latest technology with those who live, work, and visit our area. The system provides a quick, efficient, and secure way to get neighborhood-level information out to our community members who subscribe to the system. The City of Austell will be able to send text messages and email alerts to subscribers in our area. Through Nixle, we will deliver messages securely to citizens by email and text message, supporting and expanding our community outreach efforts.

The system will be most effective when we gain a large number of citizen subscribers. The service is secure, reliable and easy for our group to use. You decide what information you want and whether you want it to send to your cell phone, email or simply over the web. This service will be used in case of floods, fires, chemical spills, evacuations, lock downs, downed power lines, lost individuals, natural disasters, abductions, water system problems, bomb threats, traffic mitigation or other emergencies. The system is available at no cost to our citizens (standard messaging rates apply).

Please take a moment to register for alerts – simply text AUSTELL to 888777 and you’ll be informed and instructed when necessary.

We believe this service will allow us to keep you informed in the most convenient, reliable way possible. Please spread the word about our use of Nixle.

Flooding is a temporary overflow of water onto land that is normally dry. Floods are the most common natural disaster in the United States. Failing to evacuate flooded areas or entering flood waters can lead to injury or death.

Floods may:

  • Result from rain, snow, coastal storms, storm surges and overflows of dams and other water systems.
  • Develop slowly or quickly. Flash floods can come with no warning.
  • Cause outages, disrupt transportation, damage buildings and create landslides.

If you are under a flood warning:

  • Find safe shelter right away: The Austell Fire Department has designed Collar Community Center as shelter, Address is2625 Joe Jerkins Blvd. Austell, Ga. 30106.
  • Do not walk, swim or drive through flood waters. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
  • Remember, just six inches of moving water can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.
  • Stay off bridges over fast-moving water.

Depending on the type of flooding:

  • Evacuate if told to do so.
  • Move to higher ground or a higher floor.
  • Stay where you are.
