What to expect when applying for a business license?
All businesses in the city are required to have the following minimum requirements. Working smoke alarms, emergency lights, current fire extinguishers and visible street numbers.
Are there any fees for a business inspection?
Typically, there are no fees for the first business inspection. The Fire Marshal's Office may impose a fee after multiple inspections of the same business have been made.
How long is my fire extinguisher good for?
Fire extinguishers are only good for 1 year in a business. They must be replaced or serviced annually and documentation must be provided.
How often is a business inspected?
All businesses in the city are inspected yearly / annually.
How do I report a fire code violation?
To report a Fire Code Violation please notify the City of Austell Fire Marshal at (770) 819-2309 and email to firemarshal@austellga.gov or bring to your nearest City of Austell Fire Department.
How do I request a fire safety class?
Email our office with your contact info and the type of class you are wanting at firemarshal@austellga.gov
Do you give away free smoke alarms?
Yes. If you live in the city limits, with proof of residency you can come by and pick up a free smoke alarm.
Do you install care-seats?
No we do not. You can visit the Cobb County Safety Village for car-seat installation. For more information visit http://www.safekidscobbcounty.org
Can I get my blood pressure checked at the fire station?
Blood pressure checks are normally done at the fire station any day between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM; however, if you are having problems come by anytime day or night or dial 911.
Are tours of the fire station available?
Schools and community groups are welcome to visit the station and see the equipment anytime Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Please call ahead to arrange a tour with the Fire Captain on duty at (770) 944-4322.
How do I arrange for a fire safety presentaion?
Fire and safety presentations are available by contacting the Fire Chief's office at (770) 944-6133.
What is the City's fire insurance safety (ISO) rating?
The City's ISO rating is a 3.
What should I do if I want to burn outdoors within the City?
Burning times are 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM Monday through Saturday, October 1 through April 30 each year. You may burn only small limbs and leaves that fall within your yard; burning of trash is prohibited. Burning is prohibited on Sundays and holidays as well as May 1 through September 30 of each year.
Does the fire department offer a smoke alarm program?
Yes, the Austell Fire Department offers free smoke alarms to residents of the City. The Austell Fire Department will also install the smoke alarm free of charge for senior citizens and for others that may qualify.
