On Saturday, March 29, 2014, Mayor Joe Jerkins, on behalf of the citizens of Austell dedicated the Veterans Memorial Park to “All Veterans of All Wars.” This dedication was to respect and honor in remembrance of the brave men and women who served, and continue to serve, our Nation defending the Freedom of all.
The focal point of the Veterans Park is the granite monument with a background of the seven flagpoles each displaying the flags for each branch of service: Army, Marines, Navy, American, Air Force, Coast Guard, and POW. As you look off to the left of the monument you see an amazing 80’ flagpole with an enormous American Flag. The park “gives you a strong sense of pride, because you are a free American!”
The Veterans Memorial Park is just a small token of our appreciation to the brave men and women that make our freedom possible.
About this project
Phase l of the park was presented to the Austell City Council for their approval on Monday, December 3, 2012. Plans included an 80’ flag pole with a 20’ x 30’ American Flag, with a circular brick paver area surrounding the base of the flagpole, a 100’ x 6’ retaining wall, and landscaping with sprinkler system. $33,000 was approved for this phase of the project. Funds were approved to come from the AACIC (Austell Area Community Improvement Committee Fund).
Phase II of the park was presented to the Austell City Council for their approval on Monday, November 4, 2013. Plans included the monument, seven flag poles, three benches, brick pavers (to be engraved), landscaping, lighting, and sprinkler system. $50,000 from SPLOST and $40,000 from the AACIC fund (Austell Area Community Improvement Committee) was approved for the completion of the park.
