The Community Affairs Department manages the Community and Economic Development programs for the city of Austell. In addition, Parks and Recreation, Planning, and Zoning all fall within the scope and responsibility of the Community Affairs Department.
Builders and developers may apply for all building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits from the Community Affairs Department. Individuals or groups can schedule activities at Legion Park, Collar Park, or at the Collar Community Center and the Threadmill Complex with the Department, which is located in the Threadmill Complex.
This department coordinates annexation, variance, and zoning requests with the Planning and Zoning Board which is comprised of citizens whom have been appointed by the Mayor and Council. The Community Affairs Department also interacts with the Downtown Development Authority, the Industrial Development Authority, and actively seeks grants for city projects.
Community Affairs is responsible for coordinating the city’s outreach activities which include the annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree. The department also manages Austell’s Community Center, as well as the design, building, and leasing of all office space in the City of Austell Threadmill Complex.
