Fire Chief Brandon Merritt grew up in the South Cobb area and started his career as a volunteer Firefighter with Paulding County in 1995. After a short time as a volunteer, he started with the Austell Fire Department in 1996. He has been married to his wife Stacy since 1996 and has three children, Auburn, Lucas, and Ty. He has served the city in the capacity Fire Fighter, Lieutenant, Training Officer, Captain, and Assistant Chief before being appointed to the position of Fire Chief in January of 2020. He is responsible for the administration and over-all operations of the department. Chief Merritt has felt that his role within the department has helped him stay in touch with the city and the citizens to make him feel like he is part of a family that is the employees and citizens of Austell.
